The word Ramadan is derived from the Arabic word Ramida, meaning extreme scorching heat and dryness especially the ground. Holy Ramadan is the ninth month of an Islamic Calendar. All Muslims believe that during the Holy month of Ramadan the Holy book Quran was sent down from heaven as guidance for all human beings and also as a direction and a means to Salvation. As Quran say:” The month of Ramadan in which the Quran was revealed, guidance for mankind, clear signs of guidance and the criterion”. (2:185)
In the month of Ramadan Muslims offer prayers and recites holy Quran. In Ramadan, the Muslims reassess their lives under the principles of Islam. The last Ashra of Ramadan is special because during this time, the Muslims spend more time in prayers with the belief that they’ll get closer to god because of their good deeds, sacrifices.
According to Quran, the 27th night of the month of Ramadan, known as the Lailat ul-Qadr or the Nigt of Power, is actually considered to be special than any other night.
In this Holy month Muslims gives gift to poor in the form of Zakat which means giving away one’s wealth to charity. The Zakat is one of the important pillars of Islam. The purpose of Zakat is to purify one’s wealth by giving a part of it to people who are poor. god.
Fasting during Ramadan helps the Muslims develop the spirit of sacrifice due to which they give up from all natural desires on this earth. Although they may not think about the life of poor people in normal days but during fasting they’ll learn to think about the less fortunate. Fasting also helps them get rid from greediness.
